Do Not Send Another Pitch Deck Out to Investors

Every founder raising investor capital gets asked a thousand times by potential investors to send them their pitch deck.

And every time a founder sends out their deck, they also develop a glimmer of hope that this investor will love their company and want to know more.

But usually it is just an investor wanting to be nice with no intention of investing.

Because I know this is usually the case, I have some advice that might be shocking to most.

STOP SENDING OUT YOUR PITCH DECK

Sorry, didn’t mean to yell, but I wanted to make sure that you heard me.

An investor hasn’t earned the right to see your pitch deck. They have earned the right to see your pitch deck after they have had a meeting with you and you have made sure that they are someone you want to continue the conversation with.

This allows you to have the power in this relationship and control the way the conversation should go.

It also allows you to see if you like an investor. Are they the right fit for you? If not, they don’t get to see your deck.

Your first call with a potential investor should be a short “get to know you” type call. If you both want to take it to the next step. Schedule a time to pitch for them.

When you do this also a beautiful thing happens. You hold onto your power. You are no longer holding your breath waiting for them to open your pitch deck. You are in control.

I can hear your thought bubble, what do you send them if not your pitch deck?

If you feel like you want to send them something. Send them a teaser pitch. This is a short video that is less than 3 min, where you go through a couple key points talking to a slide or 3.

The teaser pitch should entice them to want to meet with you.

So next time you get asked for your pitch deck, stop and ask yourself
